Dorothy Harper Blackwell

SWANNANOA - Dorothy Mae Harper Turley Blackwell, 88, of 320 New Salem Road passed away Monday, October 19, 2009. A native of Inman, SC, she had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was a former Nurses Assistant at Memorial Mission Hospital and in her latter years, served as a Private Duty Nurse and was the oldest living member of the Biltmore Church of God. Mrs. Blackwell was the daughter of the late Calvin Jack Ammons and Bonnie Lee Israel Ammons. She was also preceded in death by her son, Carl Michael Harper; daughter, Judy Harper Roberts and brother, Calvin Jack Ammons, Jr. Surviving are her daughters, Janet Banks and Sherri Burrell (Tommy) all of Swannanoa; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 3 P.M. Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery with Pastor Dale Whitson and Rev. Daniel Allen officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
