Dorothy Calloway

Candler Dorothy (Dot) Shope Calloway, 75, died unexpectedly September 10. She is loved and missed by her family and many friends. She was born April 2, 1933 in the Bee Tree Community. In addition to her family, she dearly loved her mountains, her babies she took care of at Eliada Home Day Care, volunteering at Hearts With Hands and her church, Trinity Baptist. She is survived by two children, Richard and wife, Linda of Swannanoa, Teresa and life partner, Marion of Memphis, TN. Dorothy has three grandsons, Shannon and wife, Starla of Swannanoa, Justin of Black Mountain, Devin of Asheville and one step-grandson, Everett Jones of Swannanoa. She has four great grandchildren, Michaela, Isaiah, Kelsey and Jayden and one step-great grandchild, KyAsia Jones. Her siblings have preceded her in death except one brother, JW. She has one niece, Ernestine and a nephew, Marvin. He has children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 14 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr., Rev. Allen Rash and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hearts With Hands, P.O. Box 6444, Asheville, N.C. 28816 or help the family with funeral expenses. Arrangements are in the care of Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
