Doris "Dori" Ann Barrett

March 14, 1947 — May 23, 2023

Doris 'Dori' Ann Barrett passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, after a nearly-three-year battle with brain cancer.

Born to Charles and A. Elizabeth Coole formerly of Albany WI. To know Dori was to be family, and she leaves behind a wealth of people who loved her. Dori is survived by her husband, Benjamin Barrett; her children Sarah Wilkinson (Mark Friel), and Joshua (Krystal) Brady; her grandchildren, Alex Wilkinson, Adam Wilkinson, Natalie Brady, and Vivian Brady; her many nieces and nephews, including Mike (Tammy) Niles, Faron Niles, Will Brown, and Amy Coole; her closest friends Lenni (Harold) Ritzman, Brenda Canter and Jackie Lyons; her siblings Penny (Warren) Nipple, Linda (Tim) Isely, and John Coole, her brother-in-law Mike Brown, and many she considered her children, including A.R. Farrington and Nandini. Dori is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Betty Coole, siblings James 'Larry' Coole and Margaret ‘Marg’ Brown; and her nephew, Scott Nipple.

Always adventurous, Dori blazed a bright path in her life. She graduated from Albany High School, and later Mercer University with a bachelor's degree in Business and Computer Technology. From her twenties, she hands-on learned about computers, coding, and technology at a time when women did not do that type of work. She never really cared too much for what others said she should do anyway!

Dori's hard work led her to a series of jobs in technology, ultimately taking her to IBM where she worked as a project management professional, and was recognized as a Top 500 Performer and was respected and admired by her peers.

Despite her many career accomplishments, Dori was most proud of her job as a mom. She raised two children, and treated everyone as though they were her family.

Dori's love of travel took her to many places around the world. She worked in Germany, India, and many places in the US. She traveled extensively and made many life-long friends along the way.

We miss her fiercely, but know that Dori's love and light are with us always.

No services will be held, as was Dori's firm request. In lieu of service or flowers, please consider leaving your wishes and fondest memories here on the memories , and consider donating to the Conquer Cancer Foundation in her memory, so that together we might save lives in the future.

Dori left behind this poem in her affects, and we believe it was a message to all:

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little–but not too long

And not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love that we once shared,

Miss me–but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take

And each must go alone.

It's all a part of the Master's plan,

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss Me–But Let me Go!
