Doris Aiken Rice

Asheville Doris Hilda Aiken Rice, 80, of 86 Goldview Road went into Heaven as one of Gods Angels Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She retired in 1988 from Kearfott, Inc. and following her retirement was employed part-time for 6 years with J.C. Penneys at the Asheville Mall and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class. Mrs. Rice was a daughter of the late Alvin Aiken and Ruth Pauline Kuykendall Aiken. She was also preceded in death by her son, Johnny Maxwell Rice who died in 1957. Surviving are her husband, Johnny Rice of the home, whom she married August 5, 1946; daughter, Barbara Ann Rice Roberts of Asheville; grandchildren, Kimberly Leah Chandler & husband, Ricky and Kenneth Maxwell Roberts all of Asheville; great grandsons, Brandon, Brian, Dillon & Collin; great-great granddaughters, Hannah sisters, June Reese of Woodfin and Helen Crowe & husband, Ned of Swannanoa; and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Watkins, Rev. Eb Jenkins and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 PM Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
