*** SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATE ***
Leicester – Donald Lee Fox, 73, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain.
Donald had spent the last eight years in a battle against cancer. Dr. Martin Palmeri and his warrior team, along with Dr. Kuehn and his team in his last year, did everything possible to help him in his fight. Because of their efforts, Donald and his family were able to travel, camp, fish, do yard work, and simply enjoy life around his sickness. Donald never stopped trying and never complained. He always tried to make people laugh, and when he did, he said he had done his job. He was known far and wide for his practical jokes and crazy sense of humor.
Donald was born July 8, 1949, to the late Avery Ray and Beulah Ann McKinney Fox in Yancey County. He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fox. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and had retired from the US Postal Service following 37 years of service. Donald was also a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Donald is survived by his loving bride of 53 years, Brenda Robinson Fox; son, Casey and wife Nadia, and step grandsons, Joshua and R.J., of Travelers Rest, SC; daughter Christy and granddaughters Zoe and Sierra of Leicester, and grandson Andreas of Greenville, SC; son, Corey and wife Katie, and granddaughter Averee of Leicester, with step-grandson Caleb Christopher and wife Shi, of California, where he is currently serving in the US Navy; brother, Ronnie and his son and daughter of Wimauma, FL; and sister Diane Hilliard and husband Johnny, along with their three daughters and one son, of Micaville, NC.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC, with military funeral honors provided by the US Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NC State Veterans Home, 62 Lake Eden Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
