Weaverville - John ODonald Don Penley, 90, of Weaverville, entered into eternity with his Lord and Savior, Sunday February 5, 2017, in John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. He was born December 21, 1926 to the late John and May Rice Penley. He was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired from the City of Asheville after 30+ years of service. He was a very active member of Calvary Grace Church until his health declined at which time he continued his spiritual journey from home. He was always quick to tell anyone about Jesus and the path to Salvation. His favorite verse was Psalms 23:4- Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and staff they comfort me. He married the Love of His Life, Ethel Belle Penley on May 22, 1982. They were married for almost 35 years. He inherited a host of children in addition to his four biological children. He was a great Father, Role Model, and Friend to all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Jane Penley; grandson, David Penley; and great-grandson, Austin Penley; and 9 siblings: 5 sisters and 4 brothers. In addition to his wife he is survived by sons: Dale Penley (Gail), Donald Penley (Darlene); daughter, Betty Penley; stepchildren: Debbie Clubb, Donna Blazer, Ronnie Clubb (Triena), Brenda Lynd, Danny Clubb, Kenny Clubb (Cindy), Ruth Pitts (Jimmy), and Alean Pitts (Randy); brothers, Arby Penley and Roby Penley and sisters, Gladys Penley and Martha Gann. The pride and joy of his life was his 59 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He also had a whole host of nieces and nephews which he loved dearly, including his special angel, Lexi Gann. He is soooo LOVED and will be MISSED by anyone that had the pleasure of meeting and knowing him. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Massey, Rev. James Calloway, and Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
