Dewey Howard Rice

Asheville - Dewey Howard Rice, 75, of 4 Maple St. died Friday September 28, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Burlington Ind. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a son of the late Dewey Talmadge and Lela Meadows Rice. Surviving are his wife, Nea Rice of the home; daughter, Sue McElrath of Candler; Sons, Eugene Stines of Morganton, Arthur Michales of Candler, Billy Michales of Asheville, Jimmy Stines of Asheville and Dwaine Stines of Asheville; sister, Thelma James of Arden; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Revs. Gary Coates and Clarence Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following services at United Missionary Baptist Church on Reems Creek Road. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
