Derion Lee "D.L." Maynard

Asheville – Derion Lee “D.L.” Maynard, 92, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

A native of Yancey County, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late James Clyde Maynard and Rena Delno Renfro Maynard, and the husband of the late Winnie Lou Wilson Maynard who passed away on December 5, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Francis Maynard; son, Dennis Lee Maynard; sons-in-law: Bill Gosnell, Larry Wallen, and Richard Foster; brother, James Clyde Maynard, Jr.; and sisters: Mildred Hensley, Hazel Myers, Gladys Schindell, Shirley Ray, and Louise Rogers.

D.L. was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for Harry’s Cadillac for 18 years before going to work for the N.C. State Highway Patrol in Asheville as a Mechanic until retirement in 2001. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved going fishing, hunting, and driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Surviving are his children: Regina Gosnell, Carol Maynard, Norma Maynard, Sandra Gardner and husband Jackie, and Darryl Maynard and wife Pam) sister, Faye Gunn; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Troy Rogers officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.
