David Eugene Bell Jr.

MT. GILEAD, NC David Eugene Bell, Jr., 80, formerly of Weaverville, died August 21, 2003 at his home. He was born November 12, 1922 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was the son of the late David E. Bell and the late Ruby Lyda Bell. Mr. Bell was a veteran of World War II, in which he served in the 120th Infantry Regiment and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in Normandy, France. He also served and retired from the North Carolina National Guards Service Company 120 in Asheville. He spent most of his life in Weaverville, NC where he worked for the Town of Weaverville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ray Bell, three brothers, Ed, Charles, and James, and four sisters, Ellen Bell, June Carter, Edith Holcombe, and Betty Bell. He is survived by a daughter, Gloria McCurry, of Columbia, SC, a son in-law and daughter, John and Kathy Kilby, of Lake Lure, NC, a son in-law and daughter, Gary and Charlotte Burris, of Mt. Gilead, NC, a son and daughter in-law, David and Sheena Bell, of Murfreesboro, TN, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister, Ruth Gantt of Asheville, NC, a sister, Mary Dockery of Weaverville, NC, a brother, Wayne Bell of Dripping Springs, TX. The family will receive friends at Anders-Rice Funeral Home from 7-8:30PM on Saturday. Services will be held Sunday at 2:00PM at First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville, where he had been a member for many years. The Revs. David Alexander and David Parks will officiate. Graveside services will follow the church service at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Weaverville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 891, 626 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville, NC. 28806-2125.
