Darlene Phillips Cordell, died unexpectedly May 25, 2016. She was 89 years old. She was the daughter of Glen and Mabel Phillips. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James E. Cordell; son, Stephen Cordell; brothers, Wayne, Bud and Derold Phillips. Darlene was born in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School, among her classmates were Ann Landers and Abigail Van Buren. She met her husband James in Sioux City while he was stationed at the Air Force base in 1944. She is a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters, Joan Feldman of Colorado, Connie Plemmons of Asheville; sons, Victor and Darryl Cordell of Asheville; granddaughters, Rani, Xavia and Casiah Cordell of Asheville and many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law from around the country. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is handling graveside services for the family. She was buried next to her husband and other family members in the historic Piney Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, a final resting place of Revolutionary War heroes and Civil War soldiers. Darlene Cordell was smiling as she transitioned from her earthly home to her permanent residence in the Kingdom of her Lord Jesus.
