Asheville - Dan Mitchell Jenkins, 91, of 601 Beaverdam Road died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at The Laurels of Greentree Ridge following a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a retired plumber, a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and a member of Royal Arcanum Rhododendron Council #701. He was the son of the late Robert Edward and Donnie Ingle Jenkins and husband of Frances Davis Jenkins who died September 2, 1994. He was also preceded in death by all his sisters and brothers. Surviving are his daughters, Gladys J. Ducker of Graham, Nancy Clinedinst and Jane Merrill both of Weaverville and Mary Frances Nelms and Deborah Debruhl both of Asheville; son, Wayne Mitchell Jenkins of Asheville; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark E. Henderson and Rev. Lester Crayton officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7 - 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of Debbie and Larry Debruhl, 286 Bee Ridge Road, Asheville. Pallbearers will be Elwin Clinedinst, Jr., Charlie Smith, Sgt. Tracey Debruhl, Daniel L. Jenkins, Gary Pittillo, Tommy Covan, C.D. Merrill and Barry Pittillo. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to The Laurels of Greentree Ridge Staff and Doctors for their love and care given to Mr. Jenkins.
