Coy Pounders, 82, of Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Oscar Howard and Bertie Ellen Shook Pounders. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Pounders; sister, Pauline Pounders; brother, Charles Everette Pounders; and son, Christopher Capps. Mr. Pounders was a veteran of the US Air Force and worked in the bakery industry for 40 years. Surviving are his wife, Patsy Lunsford Capps Pounders; daughters: Marietta Imhausen and husband Dave, Sally Matson and husband Elwood, Sherrie Smith and husband Rev. Ralph; son, Michael Pounders and wife Loretta; 10 grandchildren: Brandon Handel, Jansen Handel, Vanessa Anderson and husband Daniel, Brandon Estes and wife Leslie, Brian Estes and wife Samantha, Michael Smith and wife Michelle, Andrew Smith and wife Kim, Katie Blackwell and husband Joe, Gary Pounders and wife Lacy, and Josh Pounders and wife Jordyn; 12 great-grandchildren: Connor, Carson, Nic, Sadie Jo, Matthew, Logan, Emma Kate, Allison, Xander, John Dyer, Josiah, and Madi Grace; and by many extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
