Cornelia Griffin

Asheville - Cornelia Grace Jarvis Griffin, age 90, was met by her Precious Lord and Savior as she entered her eternal home on January 23, 2009. Mrs. Griffin was born on July 2, 1918 to the late Carl Nathaniel Jarvis and Eliza Obera Rutledge Jarvis in Asheville, N.C. She graduated from Woodfin High School where she played basketball. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville where she worked in the visitor welcome center for a number of years, was a member of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class and was involved in the Young at Heart Seniors Group. She retired in 1984 from Eaton-Cutler-Hammer Corp following 17 years of service. Mrs. Griffin was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Ann Hensley and both of her husbands, Hubert Andrew Looney and Joe Griffin. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Edmonds, Joyce (Steve) Landreth and Paula (Jim) Taylor; her grandchildren: Bob (Janie) Stone, Michael (Colleen) Stone, David (Angie) Stone, Tracie Rhinehart, Kelly (Joe) Shipman, Brandon (Beth) Allen, Kimberly (Michael) Lively, Clint Landreth; her great-grandchildren: Jessica Stone, Kristen (Nick) DeVore, Samantha Rhinehart, Zachary Stone, Gage Stone, Jake Stone, Michael Gerwer, Cody Shipman, Summer Shipman, Alexis Bryson, Chloe Lively, Madison Allen; her stepson Bill Looney and his daughter Teresa. She is also survived by her brothers Leland Jarvis of Ft. Myers, FL and Jack (Betty) Jarvis and one sister, Mary Stewart of Asheville and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Jarvis, George Jarvis, Robert Jarvis, Bill Jarvis and her sister, Nell Hurt. Her funeral will be held at Trinity Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M. Sunday officiated by Rev. Jerry Young and Rev Allen Rash. Visitation with the family is one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private for the family. Mrs. Griffin wished to thank everyone for their love and prayers, gestures of encouragement, food, flowers and visits with her during her illness.
