Col. Mary Miller

Asheville Colonel Mary J. Miller, of The Salvation Army, passed away at the Golden Living Center on Thursday, March 18, 2010. She was born in Baltimore, MD to James and Ethel Klaas, who were also officers of The Salvation Army. Because of their frequent transfers, she grew up in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. Colonel Mary Miller completed forty years of active service in The Salvation Army before retiring to Asheville in 1990. Her active service was in Des Moines and Newton, IA, Chicago, IL, Kalamazoo, MI and Washington, DC. Mary Miller is survived by her husband of sixty one years, Colonel Ernest A. Miller; sister, Major Evelyn Powell of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, James Klaas of Snellville, GA; five nieces and thirteen great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 PM Sunday, April 11, 2010 at The Salvation Army, 750 Haywood Road in West Asheville. Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the Miller family.
