Clyde Mckinnie Dukes

September 3, 1935 — November 24, 2005

Asheville Clyde McKinnie Dukes, 70, of 54 Beck Drive, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 24, 2005 at his home. A native of Russellville, KY, he had lived for over thirty years in Brunswick, GA before moving to Asheville in 2001. He was an owner/operator of his own lawn care and landscaping business, and had retired from the US Navy with 20 years of service. Mr. Dukes was the son of the late William and Sadie Sanford Dukes. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl West, a sister, Agnes Johnson, and a brother, Billy Dukes. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Marlene Goree Dukes, of the home; two sons: Kenny Dukes and wife Josie of Black Mountain, and Eric Dukes of Asheville; two daughters: Vicki Paulk of Daytona Beach, FL and Stacie Dukes of Brunswick, GA; two sisters: Joyce Stone and husband Chuck of Auburn, KY and Betty DeVorre and husband Earl of Franklin, TN; a brother, Earl Dukes of Auburn, KY; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-4 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Monday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery and will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team, PO Box 17636, Asheville, NC 28816.
