Asheville - Clyde Lewis Barker, 81, of 249 Smith Road died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Sevier County Health Care Center in Sevierville, Tennessee following a short illness. A native of Swain County. He had resided in Buncombe County most of his life and was a son of the late Andrew Elias Barker and Laurena Melvina Carson Barker. Mr. Barker was formerly employed with AAA Auto Parts and NAPA Auto Parts. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was active in the Lay Ministry, was a WW I I veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the VFW Post # 891. Surviving are his former wife and mother of their two sons, Reva Barker of Asheville; sons, Thomas Lewis Barker and wife, Belinda of Dallas, Georgia and James E. Barker and wife, Donna of Kodak, Tennessee; sister, Mamie Williams of Asheville; brother, Cecil Barker and wife, Hazel of Asheville; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Sharpe and Rev. Dr. Robert E. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, N.C. 28806.
