Lexington, KY. - Clyde Donald Israel, 75, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the VA hospital in Lexington, Ky. after a brief illness. A native of Woodfin, he had lived in Lexington, Ky. for the past 10 years. He was a disabled WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Coates. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast who loved baseball and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. He was a son of the late Edward Jarvis and Lela Hendrix Israel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Winford Israel. Surviving are his sister, Marie Israel Puterbaugh of Lexington, Ky.; sister-in-law, Lois Israel of Woodfin; several nieces and nephews in NC. and Ky. as well as many friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Elk Mountain Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Huggins officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial team. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
