Claude Sr. Howell

Asheville Claude Ray Howell, Sr., 90, of 44 Le-An-Hurst Road passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Mitchell County, NC he had resided in Buncombe County since 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and retired in 1980 from D.O. Creasman. Mr. Howell was the son of the late Landon Howell and Effie Buchanan Howell. Surviving are his wife, Nora Belle Shipman Howell, whom he married February 25, 1944 of the home; daughter, Brenda Howell Huntsinger & husband, Neil Huntsinger of Asheville; sons, Ron Howell of Fletcher and Claude Ray Howell, Jr. & wife, Sandra Buckner Howell of Mills River; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Stacey Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
