Asheville Claude Conrad Jacobs, 78, formerly of 31 Gatewood Road, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Center. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Jacobs had resided in Buncombe County since 1959. He retired in 1994 as a cab driver with Yellow Cab and Bluebird Cab Company, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a US Navy veteran, enlisting just after the Korean War. Mr. Jacobs was the son of the late Claude and Lucille Manley Jacobs. He was also preceded in death by a step-son, Jack Savaria; sister, Jean Taylor; and a brother, Bill Jacobs. Surviving are his former wives: Patricia Simmons and Betty JoAnn Savaria; sons: Richard Jacobs and wife Janice, Joseph Jacobs and wife Teresa, Eugene Jacobs, and Roger Jacobs and wife Donna; step-children: Mary Haney, Anthony Savaria, Cathy Fincher, and Robert J. Savaria; sisters: Betty Parris and husband D.C., and Gail Wilson; 13 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 6 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12 PM Tuesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Todd Royal officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Flowers are accepted and appreciated.
