Sylva Clarence Eugene Rogers, 87, formerly of Asheville, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Hermitage Assisted Living Center in Sylva. A native and resident for most of his life of Buncombe County, Mr. Rogers retired from Burlington Industries with over 30 years of service. He attended Maple Ridge Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the US Navy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and practiced the art of taxidermy for over 50 years. Mr. Rogers was the son of the late Ira and Blanche Israel Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Della McKinney; brother, Hugh Rogers; and half-brothers: Marshall and Lewis Sluder. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Jewel Lillian Lunsford Rogers; sons: Clarence Eugene Rogers, Jr. and William Alan Rogers and wife Rhonda; grandchildren: Byron Alan Rogers, April Carter, Chad Updegrafe, Jacob Rogers and Autumn Rogers; great-grandchildren: Ava and Jackson Carter; sisters: Margie Robinson and Annie Fox; brothers: Truman Rogers, Rev. Troy Rogers, and Howell Rogers; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Fox and Rev. Troy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
