Christine Lanning

July 20, 1922 — January 24, 2019

Asheville Christine Georgia Picklesimer Lanning, born July 20, 1922, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Aston Park Health Care Center. Christine was born in Penrose, NC and moved to the Buena Vista area of Buncombe County at an early age. She lived in Buncombe County until her death. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved cooking and sewing for them. And she loved playing the piano for her husband and sons to sing. She spent her later years at Aston Park where she was loved by everyone. She always had a beautiful smile to share with everybody. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Christine was of the Baptist faith, attending Buena Vista Baptist and Biltmore Baptist Church. She loved her church family. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Hill Picklesimer and Birdie Orr Picklesimer and wife of Charles Kenneth Lanning who died in May 1993. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Edward Lanning and sister, Ruby Lillian Silvers. Surviving are her sons, Daniel Kenneth Lanning (Shirley) of Hendersonville, Benjamin Jerry Lanning (Pam) of Asheville; grandchildren, Mark Edward Lanning (Tammy) of Penrose, Steven Whitney Lanning of Smyrna, GA, Hope Christine Lanning Lefke (Scott) of Conway, SC, Khari Lanning McElrath (Zack) and Kyle Edward Lanning all of Asheville; great grandchildren, Kylie Lanning and Hunter Cole Lefke; daughter-in-law, Rennie Lanning of Asheville; sister-in-law, Hilda Lanning; brother-in-law, Bill Lanning and special cousins, Jean Picklesimer Young and Ennie Pace. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Shepherd Memorial Park with Gene Sizemore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
