Chris Hawkins

CANDLER - James Christopher Chris Hawkins, 50, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Chris retired from the Buncombe County Department of Social Services, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was dedicated and very active in supporting the Asheville Elks Lodge Childrens Christmas Shoe Party and the Salvation Army Giving Tree. Chris was the son of Thomas Russell Hawkins, Sr. of Candler, and the late Laura Joan Sprinkle Hawkins. In addition to his father, surviving are his step-mother, Nancy Hawkins; brother, Thomas R. Tommy Hawkins, Jr. and wife Linda Gail Satterwhite of Suwanee, GA; sisters: Sandra Gail Thompson and husband Jeff of Candler, Kimberly Lynn Clement and husband Perry of Asheville, and Barbara Aliene Burnette and husband Rodney of Asheville; nieces: Ashley and Breanne Swain; nephews: Tyler and Michael Thompson and Aaron Duckett; and a host of close friends. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen, Rev. Jim Crayton, and Joey Floyd officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Joey Floyd, Tim Sluder, Anthony Elliott, Jeff Hall, Chris Johnson, and David Bradley. The family will receive friends from 7:00 9:00 PM Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Chris honor may be made to the Asheville Elk Lodge Childrens Christmas Shoe Party, 232 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to the Salvation Army Giving Tree, PO Box 1778, Asheville, NC 28802.
