Charles Wesley "Wes" Anderson

November 8, 1928 — April 24, 2008

Asheville Charles Wesley Wes Anderson, 79, a loving husband and father of 409 Gorman Bridge Road, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, April 24, 2008. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a son of the late Mark Cicero and Lottie Azalea Anders Anderson and was also preceded in death by his daughters, Charlotte Lottie Anderson and Carol Beth Anderson; grandson, Nicholas Hensley; brothers, Oakley, Luther and Jack Anderson; sisters, Wenonah Smith, Pauline Anderson and Virginia Stackhouse. He retired in 1991 from the Woodfin Water Department where he served as Superintendent following 21 years of service and was a Master Plumber. He served 4 years in the U.S. Airforce and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a Member of Newbridge Baptist Church since 1952 where he served on various boards and committees. He served as Deacon and taught the Luther Rice Sunday School Class for many years. Charles was faithfully involved in the music program in his church, he was a gifted soloist and enjoyed singing with the church choir. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Woodfin Lions Club from the time of inception until it merged with the North Asheville Lions Club where he continued for several years. He was a Master Mason and had been recognized with over 50 years of membership in the Vance Lodge #293, Weaverville. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Joan Runion Anderson of the home; daughter, Cecelia Hensley and husband, Rev. Dr. Jeff Hensley of Kings Mountain; grandsons, Christopher Hensley and Alexander Hensley both of Kings Mountain; sister, Barbara Jean Anderson Moore and husband Lee Moore, III of Asheville; brother, Richard Anderson and wife Emily of Lago Vista, TX. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Newbridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Clark Henderson, Rev. Dr. Jeff Hensley and Rev. Lee Roy Denton officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
