Charles Neal Champion Sr.

April 29, 1923 — February 16, 2002

Florence S.C. - Charles Neal Champion, Sr., 78, of 620 Evergreene Road, formerly of 50 Old Macedonia Road, Alexander died Saturday, February 16, 2002 at his residence. A native and resident most of his life of Buncombe County, he had resided in Marion, Indiana for over 20 years and had resided in Florence since November 2000. He retired in 1982 as a die setter for the Fischer Body Division of General Motors, was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and served in U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. He was the son of the late Chinnie Champion and Callie Allison Champion and husband of Clemmie Ethel Sluder Champion who died May 2, 2001. Surviving are his son, Charles Neal Chuck Champion, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lynn Champion with whom he made his home; granddaughter, Tamara Rene Martin and husband, Mark of Charlotte; grandson, Charles Neal Champion, III of Charleston, S.C.; great grandson, Michael Martin and great granddaughter, Kendra Martin both of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
