Asheville Charles Luther Bolden, 81, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of McDowell County, Mr. Bolden had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired on October 1, 1992 from the US Postal Service as a Postal Clerk, following 27 years of service. He served for over 50 years with the Woodfin Fire Department, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Bolden was the son of the late John Luther and Ada Mildred Worsham Bolden. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eliza Mae Bolden; and niece, Sharon Hare. Surviving are his sister, Irma Austin and husband Bennie; nieces: Diane Boone and husband Roger, and Sherie Fowler and husband Ken; great-nieces: Heidi Salter and Sarah Boone; and special friends: Irene Maxwell and Ruth Davis. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Boone and Rev. Willard Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Irma and Bennie Austin, 59 McDonald Road, Arden, NC. Flowers are accepted and appreciated, however, for those that wish, memorial donations may be made to the Woodfin Fire Department, PO Box 8341, Asheville, NC 28814. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center for the care and compassion Mr. Bolden received during his stay.
