Charles Edward Strickland

Asheville – Charles Edward Strickland, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 14, 2023, at the Memorial Mission Hospital.

A native of Haywood County, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late Charlie and Ethel Ruff Stickland. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Kenneth Strickland, J.C. Strickland, Leroy Strickland, and Allen Strickland.

Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed listing to gospel music and loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Mary Strickland; daughter, Rose Marie McMurtrie and husband Scott Thomas McMurtrie; brothers: Danny Strickland and wife Janet, and Joseph Strickland; sister-in-law, Frances Strickland; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.

The Strickland family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Veterans Services of the Carolinas for all their loving support and kindness in helping the family.
