Charles E. Jones

Asheville - Charles E. Jones, Sr., 83, of 115 Owenby Road, died Wednesday August 22, 2001 at Mountain Area Hospice. A native of La Fayette, GA where he was a farmer before moving to Buncombe County in 1950. He had retired from Burlington Industries after 27 years of service. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as church custodian since 1973 and was a Deacon, member of the Mens Bible Class and a charter member of the Sunshine Club. He was the son of the late Ed and Anne Marie Cook Jones and husband of the late Janie Ruth Hegwood Jones. He was also preceded in death by his son, Charles E. Jones, Jr., 3 sisters, a brother and a half-brother. Surviving are his daughters, Barbara A. Black and Flora Lou Ellen Hensley both of Asheville; step-mother, Nell Cooper Jones of La Fayette, GA; brother, James Robert Jones of San Diego, CA; half-sister, Julia Wallin of La Fayette, GA; step-sister, Mary Beringause of Atlanta, GA; half-brothers, Virgil Jones of Colusa, CA, Romie Jones of Oregon, Roland, Paul and Jack Jones all of La Fayette, GA; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Victory Baptist Church, 80 Olivette Road, Asheville, NC.
