Asheville - Charles Dick Dickson Dillingham, 78, of 200 Pennsylvania Avenue and Barnardsville died Sunday June 16, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was a member of Dillingham Presbyterian Church. Mr. Dillingham was a W.W.II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. serving in the European Theater. He retired as a Right of Way Agent from the N.C. Dept. of Transportation following 25 years of service and also retired from the Barnardsville Volunteer Fire Department of which he helped organize, was a charter member and had served as chief for 25 years. He was a son of the late Reynolds McCloud Dillingham and Arie Mae Dillingham. Surviving are his wife, Gail Sanders Dillingham of the home; son, Norman Dillingham and wife, Linda of Terrell; daughter, Susie D. Shelton and husband, Toby of Barnardsville; sister, Connie Melton of Asheville: grandchildren, Tammy Smyth, Scott Dillingham, Derrick Dillingham, Jodi Shelton and Jeremy Shelton and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Dillingham Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Emile Wolfaardt and Mr. Ryan Speck officiating. Mr. Dillingham will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends following services in the church fellowship hall. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team.
