Asheville – Cecil Edward Sparks, 94, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and resident for most of his life of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Carter Sparks and Mamie Davis Sparks. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Marie Wooten Sparks who passed away on January 18, 1995; daughter, Wanda Teresa Lipe; sisters: Geneva Louise Ray, Eva Miller, and Juanita Sparks; and brother, Roy Sparks. Mr. Sparks was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater. Following his military service, he worked for Artech, Inc, formerly known as E.A. Industries, as a machinist for 41 years. Surviving are his son, Edward Sparks and wife Anita of Asheville; daughter, Cecilia Justice and husband Loren of Leicester; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, March 18, 2021, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Military Honors provided by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard. Friends and family will gather from 1 till 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
