Catherine Sluder

Alexander Vera Catherine Sluder, 86, of 768 Alexander Road died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Ottis Franklin Sluder and Grace Louella Embler Sluder. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Embler Sluder and nephew, Dale Sluder. Miss Sluder retired from the Air Weather Service as a Key Punch Operator. She was a member of Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church where member of the Ladies Sunday School Class and formerly taught the Primary Sunday School Class for many years. Surviving are her sister, Carolyn Jean Barringer & husband, Archie of Boiling Spring Lakes; sister in law, Oletta Brown Sluder of Alexander; nieces, Elaine Ross & husband, Bill of Durham and Serena Apostal & husband, Mark of Sherrills Ford; nephew, Darren Lee of Chapel Hill; 2 great nieces, Laura Garrett and husband, Michael and Samantha Apostal and 2 great nephews, Charles Ross and wife, Sarah and Eric Apostal; great great niece, Grace Garrett and many special cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Fox and Rev. Jennis Sluder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
