Carroll Sr. Banks

ASHEVILLE - Benny Carroll Banks, Sr., 81, of 35 Busbee View Road, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Center following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Banks attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the son of the late Loranzo I. and Anna Mae Pegg Banks. Surviving are his wife, Joan Rhew Banks, of the home; son, Benny Carroll Banks, Jr. and wife Robin of Asheville; five step-daughters: Shirley Rhew Bailey and husband Robert of Asheville, Donna Rhew OConnor and husband Michael of Asheville, Sandra Rhew Brooks and husband Johnny of Marietta, GA, Debbie Rhew Angel and husband Jerry of Arden, and Judy Rhew Davidson and husband Steve of Swannanoa; sisters: Virginia Langston of Asheville and Jean Keyes and husband Jack of Etowah; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center with the Rev. Cecil Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park with military rites provided by Asheville High School Marine JROTC. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
