Asheville Carl Vernon Bud Davis, Jr., 88, of 31 Davis Drive passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. He was born and raised in Candler, retired from American Enka Corp., was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, was a man who loved life with a passion for fishing and the outdoors and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII. Mr. Davis was the son of the late Carl Vernon Davis, Sr. and Roberta Henderson Davis. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Davis and sister, Eleanor Cothran. Surviving are his loving wife of 18 years who has never left his side, Faye McGhee Davis of the home; son, Gary Davis of Candler; daughter, Diana Wooten of Candler; grandchildren, Jason Davis of Candler, Melanie Weaver of Black Mountain, Selina Ledford and Andrea Monroe both of Candler; 8 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and sister, Nonny Davis Jones of Asheville. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hensley and Rev. Willard Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Scott Haynes, Billy Gooden, Arthur Ledford, Daniel Freeland, Corey Ledford, Donald Monroe, A.J. Ledford and Stacey Weaver. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
