Brownlow Glenn "Brownie" Pace

January 29, 1922 — February 6, 2001

ASHEVILLE - BROWNLOW GLENN BROWNIE PACE, 79, WENT TO BE WITH HIS LORD ON TUESDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2001 FOLLOWING A SHORT ILLNESS. A NATIVE OF HAYWOOD COUNTY HE HAD LIVED MOST OF HIS LIFE IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY. HE WAS A RETIRED BRICK MASON AND AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF GOSPEL BAPTIST CHURCH IN WOODFIN. MR. PACE WAS A W.W.II U.S. ARMY VETERAN SERVING IN FIVE MAJOR BATTLES, INCLUDING THE BATTLE OF THE BULDGE. HE WAS THE RECIPIENT OF THE PURPLE HEART, FIVE BRONZE STARS AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE JAMES GLENN AND ELISE HOOTS PACE. SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE OF 53 YEARS, LULA JONES PACE OF THE HOME; SONS, MATTHEW PACE AND DANIEL PACE BOTH OF ASHEVILLE; DAUGHTER, OLLIE LINDA WATKINS OF ASHEVILLE; BROTHERS, VERNON PACE OF ASHEVILLE AND HAROLD PACE OF SWANNANOA; GRANDDAUGHTERS, ALICIA WATKINS, ANGIE COVAN AND TRACY JACKSON; GREAT GRANDSONS, RYAN AND CODY. FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 2:00 P.M. FRIDAY IN THE ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL WITH THE REV. HOMER EDWARDS OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN GREEN HILLS CEMETERY WITH MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES CONDUCTED BY THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY VETERANS COUNCIL MEMORIAL TEAM. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FROM 7 TO 8:30 P.M. THURSDAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME. BROWNLOW WAS AND STILL IS DEARLY LOVED BY EVERYONE WHO CAME IN CONTACT WITH HIM AND HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL.
