Brian Edward Barnes was Born on November 29th, 1977. (It was the first thing I ever did on time in my life. He was due November 29th and the pains started just after midnight.) He died suddenly on July 5th, 2024, at 11:11 am. He was riding his bike in the city of Ashville NC when a group of people walked into his designated Bike Lane. Brian, who was going fast had to swerve to miss hitting them and had no time to stop before he hit a large light pole with his head which killed him instantly.
Brian was a college graduate who was always Full of Life and Never knew a Stranger. He would always yell out at the homeless when we would stop at a light and ask them their name and how was their day going. He always saw them as human beings. He was kind that way and would always help someone without being asked.
Brian was an Artist and Photographer for Disney and Discovery Cove. He won the top award, the Gold Key Award for all High Schools in Florida for his Artwork. He painted Murals on businesses buildings and houses while in High School also.
Brian was also a father. His Son Tyler was born on September 7th, 2004. He is now going to College in Iowa. They loved playing Basketball together.
Brian played Basketball on his High School Basketball team and also ran Cross Country Track. The Basketball team would spend the weekends at our home regularly. I would have to make their breakfasts in 3 different shifts. The team was family to us, and we all still feel that way.
Brian was in North Carolina spending more time with his father Roy and also to help Henry and I with our medical problems when we needed him. He would bring me flowers and sometimes trees. He brought me a Cedar Tree recently and I will be planting it on our property in Memory of him. He also would set up my breakfast in the morning. When I came down the stairs, he had a canister of Oatmeal on the countertop along with a bowl, raisins, applesauce, walnuts, cinnamon and a spoon. He also left a note to go with my breakfast. I miss him so much now, but he is in a better place along with his Gran Ma Lady, his step Gran Pa Pop Top, His Gran Pa Rembrandt, His Gran Ma Virginia. Gran Pa William and his Uncle Mark.
Those left to cherish his memory are his only Child...A Beloved Son named Tyler; his Mother Pamela Barnes Schmitz and his step Father Henry Schmitz; his father, Roy Barnes and Debbie; his sister, Andrea and her two children: Trevor and Amber; his half-brother, Bo and his wife Katie, and their two children: Mason and Madelyn; his half-sister, Bonnie and her son, Justice; his aunt, Debbie and her two children: Scott and Kristina; his aunt, Cyndy, uncle, Paul and their two children: Shay and Hugh; his uncle, Bobby (the Brat); and his aunt, Cathy and their children: Autumn and Aprill.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
