Weaverville – Bonnie Mae Owenby Reece, 85, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Blairsville, GA, she had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She retired following 40 years of service from Carolina Freight Carrier where she served as Office Manager, was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church and a member of the Skyland Twirlers Square Dance Team. Mrs. Reece was a daughter of the late Russell “Russ” Owenby and Pauline “Polly” King Owenby and was also preceded in death by her brother, Ray Owenby. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Roland McCloud Reece of the home; son, Alton L. Reece and wife, Rita of Weaverville; grandsons, Brent Reece, Travis Reece and wife, Diana and Austin Reece and wife, Whitney; great grandchildren, Brieanna, Kate-Marie, Gavin, Gunnar, Stella Mae and Tanner; sister-in-law, Zora Hays and husband, Bob and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, December 31, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Friday prior to services at the funeral home.
