Bobby Lands

ASHEVILLE Bobby Lucious Lands, 74, of 98 E. Porter Road, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. He resided in Western North Carolina until moving to Hampton, VA in 1951 where he started work with Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company as an electrician. In the spring of 1983 he transferred back to the Asheville area as a supervisor and helped open and run Asheville Industries (a division of NNSDC) and retired in August of 1993 following 42 years of service. He was a son of the late William Ross Lands and Beulah Parris Lands. He also was preceded in death by 4 sons, Gerald, Jack, Tim and Bill Lands and a brother, Frank Lands. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Patricia Melton Lands; daughter, Sandra Toogood Flynn and husband, Edward of Philadelphia, PA; sons, Joseph Edward Lands and wife Margaret of Newport News, VA, Charles Ray Lands and David Norman Lands both of Asheville; brothers, James Ross Lands and William Jessie Lands both of Asheville; sister, Linda Henderson of Asheville; 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Memorial graveside services will be held 2 PM Saturday, November 18, 2006, at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Christopher Willett officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 P.M. Friday, November 17, 2006, at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
