Bobby E. "Bob" Mashburn

June 11, 1929 — September 8, 2001

Asheville - Bobby Bob Eugene Mashburn, 72, of 25 Cloyes Street died Saturday, September 8, 2001 at his residence following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired in 1991 from Grace Fuel Oil Company after 13 years of service and was previously employed with 7-Up Bottling Company for 17 years. Mr. Mashburn was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, the VFW post #3040 and was a Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Radford in Korea and China. He was the son of the late Samuel Robert Mashburn, Sr. and Cora Lee Crawford Mashburn and was also preceded in death by his sister, Lydia Elizabeth Holmes Arthur and brother, Samuel R. Mashburn, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Christine Coleman Mashburn of the home, whom he married on May 31, 1952; nieces, Sandra Bailey and husband, Bill of Candler and Betty Jo Young and husband, Harold of Candler; nephews, Joe H. Holmes and wife, Margaret of Mountain Rest, SC, Rev. James R. Holmes and wife, Becky of Black Mountain and Larry E. Holmes and wife, Diana of Asheville; sister-in-law, Lorraine Keltner of Clarksville, IN; brothers-in-law, J.C. Coleman and wife, Bill of Hendersonville and B.L. Coleman and wife, Billie of Mauldin, SC. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Leroy Denton, Dennis Thurman and James R. Holmes officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. Honorary pallbearers will be his shipmates of the USS Radford including, Robert Bob Boggs of Chillicothe, OH, William Byrd of Lexington, SC, David Cagley of Kingsland, TX, Leonard R. Guest of Havelock, Roy C. Herman of Cincinnati, OH, Felix Meza of San Marcos, CA, William Nauta of Reseda, CA and Tom G. Puorro of Palm Coast, FL. Pallbearers will be Mike Coleman, Jeff Coleman, Billy Bailey, Harold Young, Samuel Young and Mark Clevenger. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to: Mountain Area Hospice, P.O.
