Asheville – Robert Franklin “Bobby” Gantt, 87, and Julia Thorpe Gantt, 84, of 120 Old Leicester Hwy, went to be with their Lord due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Mr. Gantt was a native and lifelong resident of Western NC and formerly employed for many years with The Community Store in Canton and served in the NC National Guard. He was a son of the late Robert Lee “Bob” Gantt and Selma Clubb Gantt and was also preceded in death by his sister, Eva McCoy.
Surviving are his daughter, Daphne Gantt of Candler; two step-daughters, Pamela Jane Watson and Catherine Watson Stanley both of Canton and brother-in-law, George McCoy of Richmond, VA.
Mrs. Gantt was a native of Dothan, AL and resided in Western NC for over 66 years. She was a daughter of the late Talmadge Porter “Buck” Thorpe and Florence Mae Evans Thorpe and was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Wanda Gail Watson; twin sister, Georgia Thorpe and sister, Willodean Swensen.
Surviving are her two daughters, Pamela Jane Watson and Catherine Watson Stanley both of Canton and step-daughter, Daphne Gantt of Candler.
They were also survived by their grandsons, Shannon DeHart (Keri), Brandon Mull and Dylan Inman (Candra); great grandsons, Asher and Cash and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Gantt both retired from Golden Ray Food Services and were long time members of Victory Baptist Church where they founded The Food Program for the homebound and elderly through the church.
Joint memorial services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following services at the church.
Burial will be private.
