Lugoff, SC – Robert “Bob” William Keyes, 90, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Howard and Nell Ferguson Keyes and was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ronald Davis and sisters-in-law, Martha Keyes and Jean Keyes.
He attended French Broad School, was a 1950 graduate of Woodfin High School and later attended Blantons Junior College and Wake Forest University.
Mr. Keyes worked for McClain Trucking for 20 years before opening Huckabee’s Hound Trucking with his brother. He enjoyed working and loved old cars, especially Ford Edsel of which he was an avid collector. He loved cats and Wake Forest football, going to the fair, traveling, family get togethers and he did not enjoy sitting still.
He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Smalley where he was awarded the National Defense, United Nations, and Korean Service Medals.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving companion of 40 years, Frances Stewart and her children, Vickie McClain (deceased), Steven Stewart (Jean) and Sheila Hooper (Dave); brothers, Howard Keyes, Jr. (Shirley) and Jack Keyes (Jean); sister, Susie Davis; granddaughters, Lizzie Hooper and Stevie Plew (Patrick); great grandson, Levi Plew, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Friday, February 3, 2023, at Green Hills Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the US Navy.
