Billy O’Brien Cochran, GySgt, USMC (Ret.), 90, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Elizabethton, TN, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1981. He was a son of the late Minnie Cordelia Cochran, and husband of the late Evelyn June Metcalf Cochran who passed away on May 11, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Viola Miller.
Mr. Cochran was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the VFW. He was also a longtime member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Skyland.
Surviving are his children: Diane Miller, Teresa Hedger and husband Karl, Steve Cochran and wife Janice, Sue Craig and husband Bobby, and Bob Cochran and wife Trish; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Webb and Rev. Troy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 till 10:30 AM Friday at the funeral home.
