Asheville – William Clyde “Bill” Clontz, 83, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2020 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe County, he was a long time volunteer at ABCCM, an avid airplane enthusiast and pilot, and a charter member of the WNC Pilots Association. Bill was a long time member of First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and served on numerous committees, and also led a Disciple Bible Study Class for over a decade. He had a BS in Industrial Engineering from NC State University and was a proud NC State Alumnus, and was a US Air Force veteran. Mr. Clontz was a son of the late Claude Carlisle Clontz and Dorothy LaNell Long Clontz and husband of Carol Clontz who died October 15, 2013. He was also preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and grandson, Christopher William Clontz. Surviving are his daughter, Terri Clontz of Raleigh; son, Mike Clontz of Candler; sister, Joyce Clements and husband James of Asheville; brother, Bob Clontz of Concord and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Tommy Bratton, Rev. George Gasperson and Laura Clontz officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Mountain UMC Cemetery. The family will gather from 12:00 to 12:45 PM prior to services at the funeral home.
