Bill Carter

October 15, 1932 — August 30, 2017

Asheville William Jackson Bill Carter, Sr., 84, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1991 following 41 years of service with Burlington Industries where at the time of his retirement, he served as Supervisor in the Weaving Department. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Bills Garage at his home for over 10 years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and former member of Victory Baptist Church where he had served as usher, worked in the sound booth and served on numerous committees. Mr. Carter was the son of the late Ralph and Lola Carter. Surviving are his wife of over 66 years, Margaret Wheeler Carter of the home; son, William Billy Jackson Carter, Jr. and wife Tommie and daughter, Susan Elaine Susie Dicus and husband Mike all of Asheville; grandchildren, Marcie Dicus, Lori Connolly, Jodie Dicus, Joni Wellmon (Kevin), Mark Dicus (Heather), Chip Carter (Lindsay) and Dylan Dicus (Kate); great grandchildren, Ethan, Evan and Halei Gillis, Claire Margaret and Carlee Connolly, Kylei Polk, Bryce and Brystol Wellmon and Ellie and Ty Dicus; sister, Maxine Banks of Woodfin and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen, Rev. Larry Sprinkle and Rev. James Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at the Anders-Rice Funeral Home and from 1:30 until the service hour Sunday, at the church.
