Bill Benfield

Asheville Billy Eugene Bill Benfield, 83, of 58 Hubbard Avenue, went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, June 2, 2012. Mr. Benfield was a native of Burke County and had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was formerly a co-owner with Bates Food Store and was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Charles Lazell and Cleo Setzer Benfield and was also preceded in death by his sister, Louise McClure; brother, Jim Benfield and a sister at birth. Surviving are his wife, Edith Ward Benfield; son, Bill Benfield and wife, Rebecca of Asheville; grandsons, Shawn Benfield and wife, Jayme of Weaverville and Joshua Benfield and wife, Leslyn of Mooresville; great grandchildren, Abeni and Macee of Asheville and Titus and Eden of Mooresville; sisters, Joyce Crawford of Warren, Michigan and Betty Pike of Alexander; brother, Jerry Benfield and wife, Gail of Etowah and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Nelson Ponder and Rev. Joshua Benfield officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Bill and Rebecca Benfield, 74 Lookout Road, Asheville. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the Nurses, Social Workers and Chaplains for the vital role they had in our loved ones journey.
