Betty Riddle

April 6, 1931 — January 11, 2019

Asheville - Betty Cox Riddle, 87, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Riddle had retired from Andrex as a seamstress and was a member of Union Baptist Church. She was always up for an adventure, especially when it came to traveling and camping with family and friends. Mrs. Riddle will always be remembered as a loving wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Mrs. Riddle was the daughter of the late Harley Bascombe and Mary Ramsey Cox, and the wife of Robert A. Riddle, who passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by 10 siblings. Surviving are her daughter, Alice Riddle-Merrill; grandchildren: Lara Statile and husband Rick and Ryan Merrill and wife Sara; great-grandchildren: Evan, Cooper, Finnegan, Audrey, Caitlyn and Bayleigh; sisters: Louise Ponder, Loni Ledbetter, and Rena Cantrell; her beloved dog, Mollie; and numerous nieces and nephews. People say it takes a village to care for each other. The family would like to express their heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Mrs. Riddles Village: Louise Ponder, Sheila and Randy Burrell, Sharon and Robert Hawkins, and their children, as well as caregivers Tina, Robin, Carrie, and everyone who came into her home to care for her with the love and dedication for her well being. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Robert Hawkins and Rev. Randy Burrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, and at other times at Mrs. Riddles home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mission Health Rathbun House, Attn: Department of Philanthropy, PO Box 536, Asheville, NC 28813, or to Care Partners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
