Asheville – Betty Mae Widner Ward, 78, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at her residence.
A native of Washington County, VA, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1964 and worked at UNCA.
She is a daughter of the late Monroe Campbell Widner and Roxie Thomas Widner, and wife of the late Henry Jackson Ward. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Terry Evans; sisters: Mabel, Mildred and Louise and brothers: Paul, Jack, Joe and Earl.
Surviving are her children: Henry Cambell Ward, Tammy Marie Ledford and Lisa Kaye Hicks; grandchildren: Alicia Jean Owenby, John Charles Hicks, Michael Allen Hicks, Kevin Lance Hicks and Karl Frederick Hicks; sisters: Ruby Fields and Shirley Widner; step sisters: Faye Widner Hoback and Maye Widner DeBoard; step brother, Allen Widner and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Highland Baptist Church Cemetery, 42 Gudger Chapel Road, Leicester, NC, with Pastor Garry Rogers officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 1:00 PM Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Henry Ward, John Hicks, Kevin Hicks, Karl Hicks, Michael Hicks, and Dywane “Wayne” Owenby.
