Betty Laughridge

Marion Betty Gosnell Laughridge, 78, of Marion, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Mrs. Laughridge was born in Buncombe County to the late Frank and Martha Gosnell. She was an accomplished artist, author, and craftsman, who enjoyed painting, writing poetry, drawing, crocheting, and reading books. She loved music, and would gladly sing for family gatherings and church activities. She earned her nursing degree from Western Piedmont Community College, and upon taking the nursing boards, on which she scored nationally, she became a Registered Nurse, serving for 25 years before retirement. Surviving are her husband, James Laughridge; children: Karen Robinson and husband Jeff, Janet Lovelace and husband, Rev. William Lovelace, and James Laughridge, Jr.; three grandchildren, one sister, and four brothers. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank McDowell County Community Paramedics, CarePartners-McDowell Hospice, and the Mitchell House for their support and family assistance. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider Samaritans Purse, and designate the donation to Africa Missions.
