Betty Kanipe

West Asheville Betty Lou Mashburn Kanipe, 85, of 48 Oregon Avenue went to be with her Lord Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Haywood County. Mrs. Kanipe resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She retired in 1996 following 48 years of service with the National Climatic Data Center. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Kanipe was a daughter of the late William Gurley Mashburn and Minnie Reece Mashburn and the wife of Daniel Alexander Kanipe who passed away January 2, 2009. Surviving are her son, Michael Steven Kanipe of Arden; grandchildren, Deana Marie Shelton and husband Dillon of Candler and Michael Adam Kanipe and wife Ashley of Asheville; great grandchildren, Gracie and Lucas Kanipe of Asheville; sisters, Peggy Jackson and Nora Lee Jones both of Asheville; several nieces and nephews. No services are planned. Private burial will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
