Betty Jean Chambers Swanger

Asheville - Betty Jean Chambers Swanger, 70, of 628 Emma Rd. died Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of Dollie Rice Chambers of Weaverville and the late Rev. Fred Eugene Chambers and was the wife of the late Burnace Vernon Swanger who died in 1991. Surviving in addition to her mother are her children, Walter E. Swanger and wife Judy C. of Asheville, Susan Stewart of Marrietta, GA, Carol Payne and husband Larry of Candler, Mike Swanger and wife Glenda of Marietta GA, and Steven Swanger of Asheville; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
