Asheville - Betty Joe Smith Dalton, 75, of 119 Mimosa Drive died Sunday December 16, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired in 1986 from the Brooks Howell Home after 21 1/2 years of service. She was a member of Happy Valley Baptist church where she formerly served as the Sunday School Secretary and was a member of the Hominy Valley V.F.W. Post #9939 where she served as the chairman of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a very special person to her family and friends. She was a daughter of the late William Jennings and Pearl Gill Smith and the wife of the late Roy Willis Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Mafra Hensley Smith. Surviving are her sons, Roy J. Dalton of Candler, Daniel R. Dalton of Shelbyville, Ky. and Joseph K. Dalton of Asheville; Sisters, Louise McCormick of Mesa, Az. and Claudine Stallings formerly of Asheville; brother, Cameron Smith of Asheville; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Revs. Warren Williams and Charlie Edmondson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
