Betty Irene Carland

Fletcher - Betty Irene Torrence Carland, 78, of 19 Jones Circle, died Saturday July 26, 2003 at the Elizabeth House. A native and resident most of her life of Buncombe County. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Skyland. She was a daughter of the late Ralph Torrence and Minnie Lee Emory Torrence Jones and wife of the late Paul Franklin Carland. She was also preceded in death by her, son, Danny Griffis; brothers, Billy, Herbert and Buddy Torrence and step-father James Willard Jones. Surviving are her son, Jerry Griffis of Fletcher; stepchildren, Franklin Carland and Judy Jones both of Bryson City; sisters, Louise Baker and husband, Arthur of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Lillian Moore and Dorothy Joan Richmond both of Fletcher; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka, with the Rev. James Stroupe officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
